The Regional Alliance for Preservation provides information and resources on preservation and conservation for cultural institutions and the public throughout the United States.
LYRASIS helps libraries operate more effectively by providing expanded access to valuable resources and professional expertise in content creation and management. Created in 2009 by the merger of PALINET and SOLINET and joined shortly thereafter by NELINET, LYRASIS is the nation’s largest regional non-profit membership organization serving libraries. With a collective history that dates back to 1936, LYRASIS continues its mission of supporting libraries and information professionals by offering creative solutions and increased savings opportunities through collaboration, consulting, digital and preservation services, professional development, and group purchases. LYRASIS collaborates with libraries and information professionals to transform their institutions, operations and technologies, enabling them to meet the current and future needs of library users more effectively and with greater efficiency. In addition, we leverage our strategic partnerships and large-scale membership to expand the availability of content to libraries while controlling costs.
The mission of LYRASIS's Preservation Services is to improve institutions' ability to maintain long-term, cost-effective access to information resources in both traditional and networked collections. We fulfill this mission by providing education and training, information and referral, consultations, and regional coordination. LYRASIS also provides preservation and conservation services such as digital imaging and photo duplication, audio conservation, and emergency response services. Through these activities, we promote the integration of common-sense preservation strategies into ongoing procedures and routines to ensure access to library and archival information resources. The Field Services program has been providing services to cultural institutions in the Southeast and across the country since 1984. This program is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access.
